Salt (brine) and onion are the only spices able to penetrate into chicken so you still need to use salt in the first marinade. This mix is perfect because i can adjust the amount of salt. The spice mix is close to those used in restaurants but without a real tandoori oven I can’t say it is sn exact match in taste. My home oven isn’t hot enough for the flavors to fully develop. There are flower pot style DIY tandoori ovens (youtube) that look like they could work nicely.
