Turon (Spanish Almond Nougat)
Turon is a traditional holiday Spanish candy consisting of only three ingredients: almonds, honey and egg white. You can also add freshly ground cinnamon, nutmeg or other spices for an ultra simple and special holiday treat.
2 cups almond slivers, roasted
2 cups raw honey
4 egg whites, whipped into a meringue
1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, add honey, bring to a slow boil. Remove from heat. Fold meringue into honey and add back to medium heat, stirring constantly for 15-20 minutes to form a thick caramel.
2. Once thickened, add roasted almonds and combine.< br />3. Pour into a parchment paper lined dish, placing parchment on top to prevent sticking.
4. Move to refrigerator and let chill, at least 2 hours before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
