The Best Broccoli Tots

These broccoli tots will certainly wake up your taste buds. What kicks this broccoli up a notch is Japanese shichimi togarashi- a blend of seven spices- with sichuan peppercorns, orange peel, black and white sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, nori and red chiles. 


2 tsp RawSpiceBar's Shichimi Togarashi
1 large head of broccoli 
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 
Kosher salt & pepper, to taste
1 egg
1/2 cup panko
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lemon, zest and juice
1/2 cup Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, grated or shaved
Optional: sliced shallots, cooked bacon


1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Blanch broccoli, 2-3 minutes, then shock with cold water and drain well.
2. In a food processor, pulse broccoli, olive oil, lemon juice and zest, egg, garlic, cheese, panko, shichimi togarashi, salt and pepper, bacon and shallots (if using).
3. Scoop a spoon sized amount into your hands and shape into a tater-tot shape, then add to baking sheet.
4. Once finalized, bake tots until golden brown and crispy, 18-20 minutes, turning half way through. Serve with shichimi togarashi, furikake, ketchup or sriracha!
