Syllabub - The Better than Eggnog Holiday Cocktail

Syllabub tastes like a cross between an apple cream pie and eggnog. Syllabub is a drink that was all the rage in the 18th century. Made from sweetened cream, alcohol, and occasionally eggs. Serve smooth or whipped (with whipped cream floating on alcohol). The recipe for syllabub originally calls for hard cider, milk, cream, and nutmeg spices.

1⁄2 cup sugar
1 cup white wine or hard cider
1 quart half-and-half
Whipped cream and ground nutmeg, to top

1. Heat sugar and wine on low heat in a medium saucepan to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat. Add in half-and-half and beat until frothy.
2. Move to refrigerator and chill completely, 1-2 hours or more.
3. Pour into glasses, top with whipped cream and sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
