Muhammara is a classic Middle Eastern mezze dip of roasted red peppers, walnut, toasted, freshly ground cumin spices, garlic and sea salt - perfect for dipping.
1 large fresh red bell pepper, roasted
4 scallions, minced
1/2 lemon, juice
1 teaspoon ground cumin or cumin seeds
Kosher salt, to taste
3 teaspoons pomegranate molasses
1 tsp Maras pepper flakes
5 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup toasted walnuts
1/3 cup bread crumbs
1. Combine pepper, scallions, lemon juice, cumin, salt, 2 teaspoons pomegranate molasses, ½ Maras pepper flakes, 4 tablespoons olive oil and all but 2 of the walnuts in a food processor and purée until mostly smooth.
2. Add 4 tablespoons bread crumbs and pulse to combine. If mixture is still too loose to hold its shape, add remaining bread crumbs and pulse again. Season to taste with salt and red pepper flakes. Move to a bowl and drizzle with olive oil, crushed walnuts and remaining Maras pepper flakes. Serve & enjoy!
